![]() The poster is a lot different to that which people where expecting and we were certainly pleasantly surpried. When this piece first leaked on to the internet Saturday night my thoughts where simply “Wow”. Mondo Mystery Movie XI – Laurent Durieux’s Die Hard. Produced for the Hurricane Sandy relief benefit concert, this gig poster captures both the sentiment of the song it represents and the cause it was in aid of. The Gaslight Anthem – El Jefe Design’s ‘Never let you down’. I have struggled to find a piece that represented the movie both visually and in tone but Sam has done a perfect job with this Giclee’. It is no secret that Ghostbusters is one of my favourite movies. Gallery 1988, Crazy 4 Cult 7 – Sam Gilbey’s ‘Dog’s and Cats Living Together’. The image and colours are striking and even though it doesn’t even properly feature Godzilla, you get a definite sense of presence in the extremely clever imagery. ![]() This award winning piece is unique to this list as it is for a movie that isn’t even out yet. Mondo – Phantom City Creative’s Godzilla. An evolution of the minimalist design it captures the tone and symbolism of the Batman movie and legend in a very effective piece. Our favourite Tyler Stout piece, the variant harkens back to the grimy 70’s feel of horror movie advertisement.īottleneck Gallery – Matt Ferguson’s ‘He Stole My Balloons’. Mondo – Tyler Stout’s Shaun Of The Dead Variant. These are in no particular order and we have decided to only pick one piece per artist for the sake of variety. Instead, at Cult Collective we have chosen to pick our 10 personal favourite pieces from 2013, as we wanted to carefully reflect on what has been a great year for pop culture art and design. They are massively subjective, very personal to the author and narrowing down the choices can be a pain! Justin Ishmael of Mondo has just posted his carefully considered choices over at the Mondo blog. ![]() You can also keep up to date with his shenanigans on TWITTER, INSTAGRAM and FACEBOOK, too!Ĭhoosing a ‘top 10’ and ‘best of’ lists is always a challenge. “Finish Hymn!!” – Threadless Collaboration with Olly MossĪ lot of Aled’s work is available to buy over at his ONLINE STORE. Gallery 1988 seem to agree and in response have announced ‘Such Pixels’, a solo show of new work produced by Aled Lewis which “will explore things you’ll recognize from the world of popular culture through the majesty of tiny squares.” Over Gallery 1988’s last few gallery shows I have been quite impressed by the work of fellow Brit Aled Lewis, who has created pieces of art for the likes of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz inspired by the side scrolling 16-bit games that brought me hours of fun on the Sega Mega Drive. When I was a kid I was a huge fan of games like Golden Axe and Streets of Rage.
